The additions include Kansas’s 2nd, Michigan’s 1st, North Carolina’s 13th, New Jersey’s 2nd, Oklahoma’s 5th, Texas’s 9th, Virginia’s 6th and Washington’s 5th.

House Democrats’ campaign arm announced Friday that it added eight additional districts to the party’s “Districts in Play” list, expanding the battleground map deep into Republican territory as the party grows increasingly confident that November’s elections could bring upset wins.

The additions include the following congressional districts: Kansas’s 2nd, Michigan’s 1st, North Carolina’s 13th, New Jersey’s 2nd, Oklahoma’s 5th, Texas’s 9th, Virginia’s 6th and Washington’s 5th. All of these districts voted for President Donald Trump by double digits in 2024. All but the Texas district, which was redrawn to favor the GOP, are represented by Republicans.

Adding the districts to this list does not mean the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee plans to spend money in the contests. But it is widely seen as a signal to donors and outside groups that the party takes these races seriously.

Rep. Suzan DelBene (D-Washington), the chair of the committee, said Democrats are “continuing to expand the midterm map into deep red territory” and accused Republicans of running “scared” as they face voters that polls show are frustrated with Trump’s leadership.
