The name of the iconic cultural center named after the slain 35th president of the United States has been restored. The front the building that is a an American landmark again reads: “THE JOHN F. KENNEDY MEMORIAL CENTER FOR THE PERFORMING ARTS.”

Late Friday afternoon U.S. District Judge Christopher Cooper ruled that an 11th hour appeal by Trump’s handpicked board of trustees was denied and that work to remove the name Donald J. Trump from title on the building should proceed.

It is literally impossible to conceive of a mindset in which the current president could have fathomed adding his name to and above that of John F. Kennedy. It is so base, so craven, so utterly bereft of moral grounding as to challenge the conscience of humanity itself.

But this victory for the American people and the Kennedy family cannot be realized without one final snub, one final insult. As of this writing the a large swath of the front of the building remains shrouded in a tarp suspended from an elaborate scaffolding some five stories high obscuring the restoration. The scene can be viewed on a live camera shot on YouTube.

Trump is manic about message control, it’s not just a priority for him it’s an obsession. Yes, technically Trump and his hand picked board of toadies are in compliance with Judge Cooper’s order to remove Trump’s name from the facade of the Kennedy Center building. But you may not view the beloved institution restored to its rightful state until Trump allows it.

So when will Trump allow it? Trump has a well orchestrated slate of events scheduled for tomorrow his birthday, Sunday 14 June. There will be a UFC cage fight on the lawn of the White House so he may entertain himself watching lesser men beating each other like animals. He will sign what he calls peace agreement purportedly ending the war he started with Iran. How long that “peace” will last is an open question, but it really doesn’t matter. What matters are the optics on his birthday. Trump will get around to allowing the public to view the Kennedy Center when he feels like it and not until. Or maybe he will appeal to his friends on the Supreme Court causing yet another delay.

For now Trump’s name no longer disgraces the front of this hallowed and revered institution. Due in large part to the efforts of Ohio Rep and Kennedy Center Board Trustee Joyce Beatty who brought the lawsuit that has succeeded thus far. Strength, courage and perseverance still matter.
