We hear more calls for the President to be impeached than for him to resign. Of course there is ample reason for both resignation and impeachment but he has been impeached twice, never coming close however to being removed from office by the Senate.
The reasons for Trump to resign are visible from outer space. His is by far the most corrupt presidency the country has ever endured and there really isn’t a second place. The self dealing and self enrichment are on a scale never before seen or really even imagined in the history of the oval office. His crypto pyramid scheme alone has enriched his family by billions. Any likewise corrupt government, leader or business miscreant has an open door to favorable terms in exchange for valuable consideration. All brazenly and shamelessly on full display for the world to see.
Trump has literally threatened war on American allies. Denmark, Canada and Mexico have all had to compensate for threats to their security from the American White House. These are historic allies with deep mutual interests, threatening them has directly endangered the safety of our country the United States of America.
Trump has consistently arrogated unto himself powers constitutionally reserved for Congress by executive fiat. Placing the burden on the first and third estates to recover those powers through unprecedented means. It is nothing short of an oval office smash and grab of authorities.
In terms of national security, Trump and his entourage have gutted virtually the entire U.S. notional security community. From domestic antiterrorism personnel to global intelligence sharing relationships. The damage is staggering, most of it below the water’s surface out of public view. But it is raising DEFCON level concerns within the intelligence community at home and abroad. This is generational damage long-term and an open invitation to mayhem in the short term.
It also bears noting the we are at war. Not a war war congress or the American people wanted or approved but a war of choice that the country and that global economy bear the weight and consequences of.
This is a short list of transgressions. When the full scope of the damage Trump has done becomes clear the nation may well reel.
Yet we hear no calls for resignation. This unlawful and abusive charlatan must resign the office of the president. While demanding resignation in and of itself by no means guarantees that it will happen it helps, if nothing else to underscore the severity and the peril Trump represents. It could also help to create a groundswell for opposition and change.
Criticism is important but resignation has the potential to end this national nightmare. We need to hear every elected leader in the country standing up and saying, “I demand the resignation of the President.” The country needs to hear that loud, clear and often. Not just for the pressure it will create for resignation but for the sake of national sanity.
“I demand the resignation of the President.” (Well deserved of course).
