Police arrested six suspects after settlers set fire to a mosque and cars in the West Bank villages of Deir Dibwan and Burqa, near Ramallah, on Sunday, law enforcement authorities announced on Monday morning.

A security source confirmed to Haaretz on Sunday that the arson campaign was carried out by settlers, adding that there were "incidents of friction in several locations" in the West Bank, including an arson attack in the village of Burqa, where settlers also set fire to a car and a mosque entrance.

A source in the Deir Dibwan municipality council, most of whose residents are American citizens, testified that about 40 to 50 settlers arrived in the village around 8 P.M. while residents were attending evening prayers at the mosque.

He said that the settlers initially set fire to two cars outside the mosque and the entrance door. Thick smoke entered the mosque, causing those praying inside, many of whom were elderly, to suffer from smoke inhalation, and many people who were praying suffered from suffocation, mainly the elderly.

The resident added that settlers then set fire to two more cars and the grass surrounding a house on the outskirts of the village – in total, five cars were set on fire, the yards of two homes, and the mosque entrance.

According to the source, residents went out into the streets after learning about the attack, and one person was taken for medical treatment due to smoke inhalation.

The source emphasized that most settler attacks take place in the early hours of the night, "But this time it happened while people were awake," adding, "They attacked one of the houses while the family was in the yard and fled in terror; the kid is still shocked and crying." He said that when the army arrived, the settlers were still at the scene."
